M27: Dumbbell Nebula

M27–the Dumbbell Nebula–or do you see an apple core? This planetary nebula (Charles Messier’s first) is one of the brightest in the night sky. The elegant aquamarine and red-orange hues reveal an abundance of oxygen laced with hydrogen gas. Four billion years from now, this will be the likely fate of our own sun.
